Happy Kat upload day to all who celebrate! Hopefully all of y’all since you’re here reading this!
Yesterday I saw an announcement that Webtoons, Kadokawa, and company whose name I forget that I could easily look it up right now but instead I’m just gonna keep typing because who’s got time for that had struck a deal to make some webtoons for, er, Webtoons based off some of Kadokawa’s properties. Most notably: Record of Lodoss War. Now, I’m pretty stoked, but I am also very wary of it because it says to be a spinoff. Not exactly sure if it’s gonna be using any of the book material that remains to have been unadapted or if it’s gonna be entirely new material. Also they showed some art of it and, yeah, it’s got that Korean webtoon art style that I’m not the biggest fan of. If there’s no large pauldrons then I’m going to be incredibly miffed.
Another nugget that was in the announcement was that they’re also going to be adaptating Slayers! That I think will be a lot of fun, but once again I’m wondering what all are they gonna do. Will it be a straightforward adaptation of the novels of which the manga and anime didn’t do back in the day, original material, or adaptations of some side novels. This one I am even more wary in terms of how it’s gonna look because I am absolutely in LOVE with Rui Araizumi’s art style. Like, to me Slayers IS that art style. So deviating from it no matter who does it will be a let down for me unless they’re able to capture the look.
Also, there better be some fucking large-ass pauldrons. I swear to God if they aren’t in there…
If anything I hope it means a chance for a new generation to be introduced to the fun shenanigans of Slayers, and perhaps a sign that other classic Slayers stuff might start getting rereleased again. Like the old anime series and movies. I know blurays of the movies exist, because I downloaded them with the English dubbed audio included despite owning the old DVD release. It’s nice and all, but I REALLY want them on a bluray to put on my shelf, ya know?
