Happy Thursday!
Got hit with the age verification bullshit over on bluesky today. Thankfully there’s work arounds because like hell I’m giving some third party who gets hacked frequently my ID shit. Not worth it for a fucking social media website. Fuck Texas. A giant space station should crash into it and send the state 10,000 years into the future.
This past weekend I had a nice three day weekend, of which I hung out with friends on Friday and then did little to fuck all Saturday and Sunday. On Friday I went to Puttery in Grandscape, which is a indoor mini golf/bar place. The place was neat and it was $25 for unlimited mini golf. With four courses in theory that means you can hop around to different courses and just have a blast as long as ya want!
Issue is there was a 4th of July event going on in that area, so the place was pretty busy, so there was a bunch of waiting for the group in front of us to go before we’d have a chance to go on the course. In itself it isn’t so bad, but some of the holes, especially the second one of the first course we went on, was such a bottle neck that slowed everyone way the fuck down due to how it was set up. There was this little fake creek in the middle of the hole where if you didn’t make sure to hit the ball just right to reach the other side but not bounce backward to far it’d roll down and fall into the “creek.” The problem arises here as people would walk over to pick up their ball, walk back to the starting point of the hole, and go again, repeating this 6 times before they ran out of strokes and were done. UNLESS it was someone who wanted to get it into the hole anyway and just kept redoing it anyway.
As it was the second hole of the night my group was preeeetty miffed and wondering if going there was a mistake. I was the first one to go and so as not to take forever and get on with it when my first stroke failed and rolled into the “creek” I just walked over, picked it up, placed it right outside the creek, and continued. After which I knelt down by the creek and proceeded to do the same for the rest of our group so we could continue. After that there were less bottlenecking with the holes. No idea who thought it was a good idea to make THAT the second hole for the course. Especially because it forced multiple groups to be stuck in this little cubby hallway at the start of the course that also acted as the exit for the course. A lot of people having to shuffle around and get out of the way for others.
We managed two courses before my friend and her brother bowed out due to sore legs and being tired, so her husband and I proceeded to the most difficult course which was pretty fun…
Except the second hole had the same damn fucking issue where it was a terrible bottleneck of a hole causing a huge traffic back up. More stupid was the holes afterward were so easy that groups would be 2-3 holes ahead by the time the group at the shitty second hole would get done.
My recommendation is go on a slow day and just cheat when it’s obvious a hole is really fucking stupid about wasting your time. It’s a minigolf bar, after all. We’re all there to drink and have fun, not treat it like a championship.
We also watched the Osamu Tezuka film Prime Rose, which was pretty neat but also felt like it didn’t use its gimmick of “WE SENT FUCKING DALLAS, TEXAS INTO 10,000 YEARS INTO THE FUTURE!!!” The protagonist goes into the future but it’s waaaaaaay after the fact and what was once Dallas, Texas is now some ancient Rome like civilization attempting to build a statue of a god of death so as to bring it back and cause destruction and death, as Texans often do in their free time. Of the outlandish Tezuka films I’ve seen it was on the more disappointing end in terms of payoff. The English voice acting was great and I still enjoyed it, but I felt cheated in a sense. It’s no Cleopatra, I’ll tell ya hwat.
It was fun seeing Spock in the movie. Wish he’d shown up more instead of being relegated to the beginning.
