A Kat’s (GOD AWFUL!!!) Blessing – 138

April 24th, 2025
Started replaying Ocarina of Time again. And by started replaying I mean I played it this past weekend and haven’t touched it since BUT I’d like to get back to it soon. Playing it via the Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch Online with the bluetooth Nintendo 64 controller because I am a sap and knew that if I were gonna play N64 games I was gonna HAVE to have that controller. First time I’m really playing it for any length of time since I got it on the 3DS back in 2011.

It certainly feels aged, but overall I am enjoying my time with it. My issues come with it being a early 3D game and some of the controls feel wonky, such as Link not going where I want him to go to push a block or open a chest. He doesn’t turn as snappy as later games, just like Mario in Mario 64 vs later Mario games. But the adventuring and dungeons are fun and I love hearing Nobuyuki Hiyama yell. He’s the greatest when it comes to yelling. No Link voice actor has come close to going “HYAH!” as Hiyama’s “HYAH!”

One thing coming back to this was that the forest temple didn’t feel as scary as when I was a kid, and to some extent when I was 22 playing it on 3DS. I remember running past the flaming skull guys in the temple going “oh fuck I hope it doesn’t notice me!” But this time I was all “meh, I don’t care about y’all” and just run by em. In a way it makes me sad because it makes me wonder if a part of me is dead spiritually since having played through the game that I no longer can get in the mood to be afraid of getting hit by it. Maybe it’s because Dark Souls and Elden Ring have ruined me with that aspect. Like, when you’re playing those games for the first time you HAVE to be careful because things can one or two shot you. But these flying skull fuckers? A half a heart? A quarter of a heart? PFHA! I got plenty more where those came from! And I kill ya and you give me a heart so it’s like nothing happened! Hell, I GAINED health! So why should I care about ya? Huh?!

“But what about the well/shadow temple?”

Meh! That always felt try hard to me. Growing up it was the forest temple that scared the fuck out of me with its music, making you feel like there was someone just around the corner watching you at all times in this decrepit mansion. And not just some spooky ghost or monster but a person. And shucks howdy are people more terrifying than ghosts and ghoblins!

I plan to skip the fire temple and go straight to the water temple. Fire temple can come last. It’s whatever.

Okie doke! That’s all for this week! I’ll catch y’all later! Maybe I’ll manage to get myself to play some more Ocarina of TIme before we meet next! Bye beeeeeeeeee!
