How’s it going?
Took Aisha to the vet for dental work back on Friday, resulting in her having four teeth extracted. Since then she hasn’t been eating much. She’s been rejecting both dry and wet food, and at most she’ll just lick some of the gravy from her wet food and ignore the rest. All she manages to eat is cat treats, which she’ll eat quickly when given. Plus she’s mostly hiding either under the bed or in the closet. A few times she’s come out and sleep on the foot of my bed as she usually does, but just a couple nights. She stayed under the bed all night last night.
On top of that Gene is hissing at her, treating her like a stranger. I’ve started keeping Gene in the bathroom during the day and when I go to sleep at night so as to give Aisha space for her to move around if she wants, as I know she’ll still go drink water and use the bathroom. Thankfully Gene hasn’t gotten too annoyed with being in the bathroom most of the day. He winds up napping underneath the sink. It’s difficult keeping two cats from one another in a small studio apartment.
I’m unsure if Aisha’s current mood is due to her being sick or has an infection, or a combination of having 4 teeth extracted at her age (9 or 10 years old estimate) while having Gene harassing her. I sent a text to my vet today but the doctor wasn’t in today so I won’t hear back until tomorrow.
(August 21st, 2025 Update: Last night Aisha managed to eat dry food but only when I give her pieces individually or a few at a time. If I presented a bowl to her or a plate of food she ignored it, so I wound up having to keep handing her pieces of dry food until she stopped eating them. The vet recommended a appetite stimulant, so I went and got that for her. Hoping it gets her to start eating again without me having to continuously serve food to her.)
All in all it’s been a stressful couple of days having that in the back of my head constantly.
On the plus side my supervisor wound up coming back into work due to her daughter having a c-section birth and being stuck in the hospital. My supervisor figured she’d just come back into work as there isn’t much for her to do there and instead saving her time off when they’re all back home and she can be of use. Because of that I haven’t been too swamped at work.
